About this piece
Collector's Interpretation "Russell Mihindukula's work transcends a simple underwater scene. Through luminous greens, layered textures, and flowing organic forms, the artist creates a meditation on coexistence, resilience, and interconnected life. The fish become symbols of individual journeys, while the surrounding environment represents the shared world that supports and shapes all living beings. The artwork speaks quietly yet powerfully about growth, adaptation, and finding beauty within life's natural rhythms.___Russell MihinduKula
Motivation
This artwork invites viewers to pause and enter a world that is often overlooked. The fish move quietly among dense layers of vegetation, symbolising individuals navigating through life's complexities. Although each fish follows its own path, all are connected by the same environment. The various shades of green represent growth, healing, renewal, and adaptation. The stronger dark greens suggest life's challenges and uncertainties, while the lighter luminous greens indicate hope, opportunity, and resilience. Together they create a visual balance between struggle and optimism. The fish themselves can be viewed as symbols of life's journey. They move through changing surroundings, constantly adapting, surviving, and progressing. Much like people, they navigate unseen currents while remaining part of a larger ecosystem.___Russell MihinduKula
Story behind the artwork
In this work, I wanted to express the beauty that exists beneath the surface of everyday life. Through layers of green, light, and movement, I explore themes of growth, coexistence, and resilience. The fish and aquatic forms represent life's continuous journey, reminding us that every living being is connected through a larger environment. My hope is that viewers find peace, reflection, and a renewed appreciation for the quiet harmony that exists all around us." — Russell Mihindukula What Viewers May Feel When standing before this artwork, viewers may experience: A sense of calm and reflection. Appreciation for nature's beauty and complexity. An awareness of how all living things are connected. A reminder that growth often occurs beneath the surface before it becomes visible. Hope that even in dense and uncertain environments, life continues to flourish.___Russell MihinduKula
