About
Russell Mihindukula — Australian Contemporary Artist
Painter of original works in acrylic on canvas, based in Australia.
The artist
Russell Mihindukula — also known as Russell Fernando — is an Australian contemporary artist working primarily in acrylic on canvas. His paintings move between portraiture, the human figure, and subjects drawn from Sri Lankan history, legend and mythology, including works such as Kuveni, the ancient Sri Lankan queen.
He works alongside a hands-on craft practice — timber, restoration and making-by-hand — and that same approach carries into the paintings: everything is built up slowly, by hand, one piece at a time.
Artist statement
“Sharing the light through my work, assisting people to reach out to their destinations through the power of art and creative expression.”
Every piece begins on a blank canvas — no prints, no copies. Each artwork is a record of the moment it was made: the colours, the mood, and the story behind it. The subjects are chosen because they carry meaning worth spending months with, whether that is a face, a figure, or a story that has been told for two thousand years.
Working with collectors
Original works are sold directly by the artist. Each purchase includes a personal certificate of authenticity, and framing and delivery are arranged personally so the piece arrives ready to live with. A limited number of commission spaces open each year.
