About this piece
This painting is about the emotions we carry before we speak. Often, when two people meet, there is a moment of quiet observation. By looking closely at their expressions, we can sometimes sense their mood and something of what they have been through. My motivation was to capture that silent exchange and the question that follows: can a conversation alter what a person is feeling, even briefly? Using acrylic paint on stretched canvas, I built the work with deep grey, blue-black, yellow, white, and subtle purple accents. These colours create a balance between darkness and warmth, uncertainty and hope. I hope viewers spend time with the painting and allow their imaginations to develop their own stories. Rather than offering answers, the work invites reflection on the complexity of human emotion and connection.-___Russell Mihindukula

This work explores the emotions that exist before words are exchanged.
