About this piece

This artwork uses vibrant, lively colors to portray my mother in her bright, joyful years during the 1980s. I was only a small baby at a wedding when this memory was captured. She loved makeup, jewelry, dressing up, and chatting at parties — this painting reflects that elegant and expressive part of her lifestyle. Through color and composition, the piece celebrates her beauty, confidence, and the joyful spirit she carried with her everywhere she went.____Russell Mihindukula

Motivation

My motivation was to represent my mother in a historical and meaningful way, using colors that express her status, personality, and presence in society. She has always carried herself with grace and dignity — even today, she is well cared for, admired, and deeply respected in the community. I wanted to bring that character to life on canvas, honoring her strength, femininity, and the example she set for me growing up.____Russell Mihindukula
