About this piece
Console By Russell Mihdukula The motivation behind this artwork comes from my own experiences navigating life's challenges, responsibilities, relationships, and personal struggles. Through work, family, friendships, and the unexpected events that life presents, I have learned that every person experiences moments of uncertainty, loneliness, vulnerability, and emotional exhaustion. At the same time, I have discovered that one of life's greatest blessings is the support we receive from one another. In this painting, I have chosen green as the dominant visual language. I deliberately experimented with multiple shades, layers, and tonal variations of green, enhanced with bright shimmering highlights and my own unique painting techniques. The colour green symbolises growth, healing, renewal, resilience, and hope—qualities that I believe are essential when navigating life's difficulties. The artwork tells a story through two interconnected figures. One figure appears overwhelmed by the complexities of the world around them, portrayed with enlarged expressive eyes and a sense of wonder, vulnerability, and reflection. The second figure offers comfort, support, and reassurance, symbolising the importance of human connection during challenging times. Motivation
My intention was not simply to paint two figures, but to illustrate the emotional bond that helps people endure hardship. We all face moments when life surprises us, tests us, or leaves us searching for answers. In those moments, having someone beside us—to listen, comfort, and support us—can make all the difference. As with much of my artwork, I combine colour, personality, symbolism, and storytelling into a single visual experience. The abstract forms and layered composition invite viewers to interpret the narrative through their own experiences while reflecting on the importance of compassion, understanding, and companionship. This painting is a reflection of my belief that life is not meant to be carried alone. The Meaning Behind Console By Russell Mihindukula In this artwork, I have explored a rich combination of greens, ranging from deep forest tones to vibrant light greens, accented with luminous and shimmering highlights. Through layering, texture, and my own unique painting techniques, I have created an atmosphere of energy, hope, and emotional connection. The composition centres on two figures brought together within a unified visual space. Their positioning is intentional. The artwork tells a story of companionship, support, and understanding. One figure appears to be seeking comfort, while the other offers reassurance and presence. Together, they represent the importance of human connection during life's difficult moments. My inspiration comes from personal experiences and observations of everyday life. We all face challenges, uncertainty, stress, and unexpected events that can leave us feeling isolated or overwhelmed. Yet, one of the greatest gifts we have is the ability to support one another. Sometimes we need guidance, and at other times we become the person offering strength and comfort. Through colour, form, and symbolism, I wanted to express the idea that collaboration, compassion, and understanding can help people overcome difficulties and move forward together. The green palette reflects healing, growth, balance, and renewal, while the intertwined figures symbolise unity and mutual support. My hope is that viewers will connect with this artwork on a personal level and reflect on the relationships that bring comfort, encouragement, and meaning to their lives.
