About this piece
Cat N Da Owl is a connected three-piece acrylic painting on stretched canvas that explores an unusual friendship between two animals often seen as opposites. The owl sits watchfully in a night-sky tree, quietly observing, while the cat turns its gaze toward the audience. The cat's expression reflects a sense of guilt and uncertainty, as if it knows it has crossed an unspoken boundary by befriending the owl.___Russell Mihindukula
Motivation
This artwork was inspired by my beloved cat, Tigger, who was a loyal companion for many years. During the evenings, Tigger would often venture outside, chasing away birds, possums, mice, and other night-time creatures. Remembering these moments led me to imagine a different story, one where natural rivals could coexist in harmony.___Russell Mihindukula
Story behind the artwork
The colour palette plays an important role in conveying the artwork's message. Green and red tones are used to represent the balance, connection, and harmony between the two animals, while the reddish-pink hues reflect my personal favourite colours and bring warmth and emotion to the composition. Through this series, I invite viewers to look beyond expectations and consider the possibility of friendship, understanding, and connection in unexpected places. I hope you enjoy the vibrant colours, the storytelling, and the imagined bond between the cat and the ow___Russell Mihindukula
